Digital Camera Intelligence For The Non Scientific Minded.

There is heaps of information that exists in the world about digital cameras. What they are and do, and most importantly which is the most suited one for me. Sure you can squander endless hours on the web toiling over one web page after another, but who has the determination to do that?

Taking photos is not my profession and I am not a pro at it. However I do enjoy to take pictures and capture all the family experiences that I can. I also love helping people and making it easy for them to learn about things that can be very complicated. Sure you could go out and just purchase the first camera that a salesmen recommends without knowing what it does or how to use it, but is that actually the best decision?

Lets take a look at a few of the normal technical terms that you will come across in your mission for a digital camera. There is no getting past the fact that the main stat that is talked about will be megapixels. This simply refers to how many microscopic individual dots a picture will have. The more the better but keep in mind that megapixels may make your images look better, especially when blown up to a giant size. However if your digital camera lacks in other areas such as poor zoom, focus, or flash technology all the megapixels in the world will not make your photos look awesome.

Zoom is another important spec to notice when picking out a camera. As you may have guessed zoom is all about making things appear to be closer. There are two different types of zooms and we are required to know a little regarding each. Optical zoom is what we really want to pay attention to and tells us how close we can pull in objects. Real world example would be there is a tree 300 feet away, with a 2x zoom you could make that tree seem in the picture like it was twice as close or only 150 feet away. Digital zoom on the other hand is nifty but when you digitally zoom in it will just take your picture and expand it out leaving you with a fuzzy, less clear photo. When you are looking for a camera the number that I would be taking into account would be the optical zoom.

To finish we will look at flash. A flash is just like it sounds, a flash of light that happens before the picture is taken and allows you to make out things in low lighting. On digital cameras quite a bit of the flash quality has to do with how bright the flash is, as well as how good the auto detection software in the camera is. This software speaks to the flash and lets it know when to go off.

There is heaps more to figure out about digital cameras then what I have room to talk about here. I advocate finding one or two really fantastic resources on digital cameras and buying at a trustworthy dealer that will take care of you. I personally am a fan of buying online as that is always where the top deals and largest selection are. Be sure to not forget that taking pictures should be enjoyable and not a extra stress to your vacations and family outings.
